TCE Technology club
Welcome to the TCE Technology Homepage! The 2016-2017 club will look a little different than last year's coding club. This year we will have a more open format and allow students to explore more than just coding. At this time, the plan is to allow students to choose between two or three project spaces. This will allow students and staff a little more flexibility and allow students to concentrate on the projects that really interest them. We are planning two mini-sessions. The first will run through Fall 2016. If all goes well, the second session should happen in Spring 2017.
If coding is your primary focus, you may want to visit the coding resources page. On campus, we are planning to use resources from the Code.org curriculum, Google's CSFirst curriculum, MIT's Scratch, and possibly Codecademy.com. We may be using the occasional unplugged activity or provide whole group instruction during a meeting, but most of the time will be dedicated to allowing students to use resources to pursue individual or small group projects.
Who is eligible?
Currently, we are accepting 30 students in grade 3-5, with priority being given to students that attended coding club last year, and then to those that sign up first. Applications will be date-stamped. Students must sign up using their Google Apps for education username and password. Parents must provide a parent email address that will be kept in a Google Sheet and shared only with TCE staff members. Under normal circumstances, parent email will only be used to contact parents in the event of schedule changes. Students must provide their own transportation.
When will we meet?
We will meet on Tuesday afternoons, from 3:45 - 5:00.
Our first day has not yet been determined. We are considering November 1st.
How do I apply?
Applications will go live on October 24th and will close after one week.
Students, before you continue, please be aware that you will need to be logged into your WCPSS Google Accounts (using WakeID) to access the application form. Accounts not associated with WCPSS will not be able to access the form. If you do not have your account information, please see your homeroom teacher or Mr. Briscoe.
Students will need to login to their WCPSS accounts. Please click here to access the online application form. **Link Not Yet Active**
Do I need to attend all sessions?
No, you are not required to attend all sessions, especially during track out. However, if you find that Technology Club is not everything you hoped it would be, please let us know, and we will open up your spot to another student. Thank you.
